Why We’re So Excited About Skullgirls 2nd Encore

Last week Lab Zero Games CEO Peter Bartholow announced the new features for Skullgirls 2nd Encore. For those that have never played Skullgirls, the game is beautifully hand-drawn 2D fighter with similar mechanics to Marvel Vs. Capcom. With the field of fighting games filling up with DLC heavy titles, Skullgirls is a welcome change.

The journey for an indie game like Skullgirls has not always been an easy one. The game has had various problems with problems with publishers over the game’s lifespan. In spite of setbacks, thanks to a rabid fanbase and a widely successful Indiegogo campaign the re-release, Skullgirls Encore, featured 6 new fighters. Thanks to the campaign, the 6 new fighters have been released as free DLC for Encore. Now, Skullgirls will be relaunched on the PS4 and PlayStation Vita as Skullgirls 2nd Encore.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore will feature a fully-voiced story mode. The story mode of Skullgirls is already wonderful. The cast of characters is both colorful and complex. The fighters of Skullgirls have rich storylines that will now be told by a host of talented voice actors. It will be exciting to see fan favorite characters like Valentine and Filia as well as upcoming fighter Robo-Fortune fully fleshed out. All of the Encore DLC fighters will be included in 2nd Encore.

The new release of the game will add unique condition challenges and a survival mode. Challenges will be matches with unique win conditions such as no jumping allowed. These new features will undoubtedly add hours of re-playability outside of normal matches.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore will also feature the ability to use PS3 fight sticks. This is great news for those who use a stick and don’t want to spend another $200 just to be able to play the new version. The game will also feature cross-platform playability with those that own Encore on the PS3. For those trophy hunters out there, Skullgirls 2nd Encore will now feature a host of new achievements including a Platinum Trophy.

Overall Skullgirls 2nd Encore looks to add an exciting host of features to an already outstanding game. We’re looking forward to getting our hands on the voiced story mode, challenges and earning some new trophies when the game launches this summer.
