Our Favorite Music of 2017

Small-CharliPOP2-CharlotteRutherford-4_FIN2017 was a dumpster fire. Just went things couldn’t get any lower, the bar kept dropping. The political spectrum was a damn mess. Nature made everyone her bitch this year. Luckily, a little hope for humanity came in the form of some truly wonderful music.

SZA released her glorious debut album. Cardi B dethroned Taylor Swift on the charts. Charli XCX proved she’s the hardest working woman in pop by putting out two mixtapes and a host of other tracks. Kesha made her triumphant return to music with the heartbreaking Rainbow. Lorde’s Melodrama overcame the sophomore slump. While the world may be ending in a nuclear holocaust soon, at least we’ll be able to bang to “Green Light”. Below you’ll find our favorite tracks and albums of 2017 as well as a Spotify playlist containing all the hits of the year.

CNTRL is the best debut album in years. It also just happens to be the best album of the year. From the sexiness of “Love Galore” to the heartbreak of “20 Something”, CNTRL fully encompasses love and loss in the age of Tinder. SZA’s soulful vocals hearken back to classic Monica and Keyshia Cole. SZA traverses the landscapes of rap, R&B and soul without losing her voice. Light some candles, take a bath and let SZA make you have all the feelings you don’t want to admit you have.
