Kanye’s fall into chaos is the perfect metaphor for Earth in 2018. Everything is a hot mess and we aren’t really sure if we’re going to survive. Luckily, we will always have music to get us through the toughest and messiest of times.
2018 started loud and proud with Kendrick Lamar’s Black Panther soundtrack. Lana Del Rey became a champion of the people and let Kanye and Azealia Banks have it. Taylor Swift let everyone know her political standing, much to the hatred of Facebook moms. Cardi B became the first woman in hip hop to have three number ones on the Billboard charts. Janelle announced her pansexuality and gave us one hell of a love letter to Tessa Thompson. All these things and more gave us small glimpses of hope throughout this tough year. While our world may be on fire, at least we have lists. Everyone loves lists. Here is our list of our favorite tracks, EPs and albums of 2018:

1. Tierra Whack – Whack World
Not only did Tierra Whack put out the best album this year, she also released the best video. Whack World is a visual album that somehow manages to package track after track of genre-bending beauty into just 15 minutes. While it may be the shortest album of the year, it doesn’t waste a single moment of its brief length. Each track tells it’s own unique story and showcases Tierra’s wide range of rapping and singing talents. The album is bittersweet. With each gorgeous track coming in at one minute, you’re always hungry for more. We are eagerly awaiting for what Tierra is serving next.
